Footbrace installation

I'm building a CH17LT. Does anyone have an alternate method of installing the footbraces? I would like to avoid having the bolt heads show on the outside of the hull. I was thinking of gluing a strip of wood to the inside hull and then to attach the footbraces to it with wood screws. My concern with this method is that the footbrace dynamics and comfort will be adversely affected.
