Mike,
There's nothing wrong at all with filling low spots and not covering the entire boat. Saves epoxy, weight, health risks if you're not wearing the respirator while sanding and time. Once the boat is sanded to 220 and given a few coats of varnish everything disappears. Except for those scratches on the okume you missed before burying them under the 'glass....
