Shearwater hull panels
Posted by Ingrid H on Feb 10, 2007
Hello! I am hoping someone can tell me about the Shearwater hull panel construction. I read in the description of the Shearwater that the hull panels have finger joints. Would these finger joints be milled on the butt end of the panels? On the web page where the contents of the Shearwater kit is shown, the hull panels are shown to be cut "puzzle" style. The puzzle style joint seems as though it would be ugly because it is too busy and would detract from the grain of the wood. Are long scarf joints a thing of the past at CLC? Do puzzle and finger jointed panels bend in fair curves? Are they as strong as scarf joints? Which joint exactly does the Shearwater kit come with? Thanks a bunch!
