Staining the deck

Since this is my first kayak build, I didn't want to waste the 300 mile trip and $50 a sheet of plywood on my inexperience. So I did the ill advised and used 5.2mm oak door skin. (The next kayak will be okoume.) Now that I've added some epoxy to the wood, I'm not that happy with the color. Is it possible to stain the deck and then glass over it?
