I'm thinking back almost 8 months now...
What you see is a total of 6 pieces - 3 for each side. I used the masking tape to line everything up. I then drilled a small hole near each of the end seams - about an eighth of an inch in. This allowed me to place a 1.25" finishing nail (aligning pin) through the pieces and into aligning holes in the deck (two at the deck beam and two at the rear bulkhead). These 4 pins easily kept everything perfectly aligned as I clamped it up with epoxy. I guess the nails act similar to Ryan's dowel method above. I fear my explanation sounds more complicated than it actually needs to be. It was a very smooth operation.
