This is my test fit, so I think I'll use a combination of both of your suggestions - I think it's going to need something like that dowel rod to "force" the hull just a smidgen wider.

Thanks (to you too, Darryl - nice to know that I won't have to resort to the stainless steel safety wire that I use on the airplane since it's not nearly as easy to work with!)
