Hey Mike,

I'm slightly more experienced than you are. I put 2 of them together. In both of mine the bottom was about an inch or two shorter than the bilge. I stitched all but the very back and planned it down a bit. Email me if you have any questions about planing it down. I helped a build named Norm with this same problem back in March.
