Tim's dead on about the small patches and extra care needed near the coaming, but the time between coats depends on a bunch of things - brand of varnish, additives used (if any) and the teperature and humidity. While his circumstances may have made a 2 day wait desirable, I was able to get very good results with a morning & evening coat for a few days. Then it got hot and I was only able to do a morning coat. So you got to go with what the varnish wants to do (sort of like training a cat instead of a dog).
