VCP hatches shearwater 17

I know that to some it might be aestetically wrong to put rubber hatches on a beautiful wood kayak. But I am a practical kinda guy and I like the VCP hatch and its reputation for reliability. I would be pleased to hear from anyone pro or con on this subject (especially someone with a shearwater with these hatches). Thanks.
