You're not alone. I didn't see any separation and have just left it. We don't seem to have had any issues, but maybe I need to check a little more closely. We've had the MC 16.5 kayak 2 years now.

We used thickened epoxy at the joints and then epoxied over the whole seat to give them a good seal. Then a couple of coats of varnish over the top.

Those seats are great at the end of the day, next to the tent while relaxing with the evening meal... We've left them loose, putting the fastener on the front edge of the seat.
