YOU REALLY DON'T NEED TO USE PRIMER IF YOUR GLASSING AND SANDING JOB DIDN'T LEAVE ALL KINDS OF PITS AND DIVOTS NEEDING FILLING. IF YOU ARE APPYING A LIGHT COLORED PAINT AND NEED TO FILL UNEVEN DEPRESSIONS FROM UNEVEN GLASSING/SANDING THEN WHY NOT USE A LIGHT COLORED FAIRING MATERIAL (GLASS MICROSPHERES, NOT PHENOLIC MICROBALLOONS) THAT WILL REQUIRE FEWER COATS OF PAINT? ESPECIALLY IF THE PRIMER IS DARK GREY.
THE BENEFIT TO USING AN EXTRA FILL COAT OF TINTED AND SANDABLE EPOXY IS THAT IT'S TOUGHER THAN THE PAINT OR PRIMER.
