Well it's hard to get just the exact curvature on the sheers for the entire length. If you use a plane odds are the shears are somewhat flat and not rounded so when you install the deck you will probably have a slight gap on the edge. My aft deck was installed with about 1" or more overlap on each side. I flipped over the kayak so the hull is up. There was a slight gap in a few spots so I just put on some thickened epoxy on the joint. With the extra 1" deck the epoxy wants to flow right into the joint. Tonight when the epoxy is set I will trim the deck to about 1/8" from the hull. I will true up the last 1/8 with my belt sander to make a nice smooth transition.
