Re: Lumpy fillets
Posted by Jim L on Nov 17, 2007
I use blue tape to achieve uniform fillets, allow them to cure over night, sand with my ROS (100 - 120 grit), and then apply the fiberglas tape. I also sand the tape after it cures to feather the edges, and then apply a final thin coat of resin with a yellow roller. Everything sure comes out nice and, whereas I may have compromised slightly on the strength of the fillet/tape bond, I've never had a problem in my boats (2 Chesapeaks and a Shearwater). My approach takes longer I suppose, but I'm not in any hurry. When I finish a boat, the clock just begins to tick toward starting another one. Jim L
