Show me your Fishfinder/Sonar setup?

For those of you/us that fish out of our beautiful wooden kayaks:

How many have put a fishfinder on board & what type of tranducer do you have?

(Skimmer, In hull, Through hull etc.)

How did you mount the transducer?

Are you shooting through the plywood? If so, what kind of interference from air in the ply are you getting?

I have a Garmin Echo 150 with a skimmer and am looking at mounting it on my MC 16.5 without drilling holes in the hull.

Right now I'm thinking of fabricating a plastic mount utilizing a pair of rare earth magnets (crazy strong for their size) to hold it to the hull.

What did you do?

RE: Show me your Fishfinder/Sonar setup?

My personal setup is normally no fishfinder, but over on another forum for Brand X boats this question comes up all the time and the consensus answer is:

Drill a hole through the hull, fill it with unthickened epoxy and shoot through that. Shooting through plywood really messes things up because of the fibrous nature of the plies

Those guys are some crazy serious Florida fishermen, as well as some serious boatbuilders, so I suspect they know what they're talking about.

While this is about a commercial plastic boat, you may still find it interesting....
