For you guys rowing the MC 16.5, can you use 8.5ft oars? I have found a deal on some spruce soons, but they are 8.5ft and not 9.5 like the Dreher composites.
Unless the deal is so good that you can turn around and buy 9.5s when these aren't right then I would say no. Have rowed the 16.5 for 4 plus years, with 9.5s. I think you would find the 8.5s to be really short.
