I would also like to know. We are leaving off the layered foam insulation for now in favor of trying out either small fenders probably strapped in place or inflatable flotation bladders like what whitewater kayakers use.
Somewhat relatedly, I saw photos of another NE dory build elsewhere on this forum where the (evidently experienced) builder put in a drainhole in the transom.
