George, When you built the Beta Prototype and added a stem, did the stem rise above the breasthook? I really like the look of the CLC NE Dory, but would really want to tie my painter to the exposed stem for a more traditional look. Bolko
No, I brought the stem up to the breasthook. The painter is thru a hole in the stem about 8" down. I don't think there would be a problem running the stem past the breasthook and fitting the breasthook around it. The only thing you would have to consider is how you would attach the forestay to the stem for the sloop rig if that's what you plan to build. It would attach about 8" down the stem so it fits past the breasthook. If you went with the lug rig you wouldn't have to worry about it.
