I wanted a backup for the outboard on my Peeler skiff and decided I needed oar locks I could quickly attach and unmount when needed. I purchased a pair of flush mount oar sockets and cut out mounting blocks from extra Spanish cedar left over from the Peeler's breasthook stock. I carefully chisled out recesses for the sockets and drilled the shaft holes. The sockets were attached with 1" #8 stainless screws. I drilled 7/8" wide recessed holes with a fostner bit to allow the 5/16" SS mounting bolts to be recessed and then completed a 5/16" through hole with a regular drill. Because the Peeler has stand off blocks on the inwales the two bolts will slip through the inwales in many possible locations to row from the mid seat position. Nuts and washers under the wale lock the mounts down. As you can see in the photo my son and I need more practice setting up the oars - but no how you cut it, the Peeler isn't a rowboat. But oars will get you back to shore - sometime.

Here is a better picture of the oar mounts - same as above but smaller
