I'm looking to build the above from the book "Canoe Shop". I see the dimension on the plank scarfs is 5/8", but the text indicates 1-1/4". Seems to be a mistake? Also, how best to cut the gains on the ends of each plank. I don't have a rabbet plane. I've tried my Dremel; it works but is not the best. A router would be nice, but the planks are rather small and the 4 mil plywood is not very thick to warrent a router. Has anyone any experience w/ these two issues? Thanks

I'm am also planning on building a Sassafras 12 in the spring and am totally new to this but the way I read the plans on sheet 3 the scarf length is indicated as 1 1/4" . If the stations are numbered 0 to 6 left to right (see pages 52-53 of the Sassafrs 14 plans). On sheet 4 of the Sassafras 12 the 5/8" to the right of station 6 is only half of the scarf and the other 5/8" is to the left of station 6. The two panels should aling at station 6. I am planning on using a 3/4" chisel to cut the gains
Like I said I have no experience but these are my ideas. Good luck
