Hi,
the oars we ordered arrived varnished everywhere except at the handle bars. So far we have been busy with working on our Skerry we had no time to think about this. But now as the boat is almost finished the question arises is this because its not good to hold oars where they are varnished when rowing or is this done so one can put some fabric there without having to remove the varnish first? I must admit I have practically no experience with rowing so far.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Reinhard

They are left unvarnished to help your grip and to avoid blisters on your hands.
