VCP kayak carrying toggles

I just recieved a pair of VCP kayak carrying toggles from CLC and noticed that they have three holes drilled in them. Can anyone tell me the purpose of the third hole?I am assuming two of the holes are for the carrying cord to go thru and then the knot is tied and pulled inside the handle.

        Thanks, Kodiak Jack

RE: VCP kayak carrying toggles

that's a great question.

i don't know the 'official' answer....but when i fitted these to my boat, i used the 3rd hole for a bungee line that pulls the toggle back down tight on the deck so it does not bang around.

when i carry the boat, the cord through the two holes carries the weight of the boat and the weight of the boat pulls the bungee line out until all the load is on the cord.

let go, and the bungee cord now pulls the toggle back down to the deck.

simple and elegant and you don't have to remember to do anything.
