I'm repainting this spring and I'm masking off the top of the boat for a border.  I'm using the 3M Fine Line masking tape which worked great when I first painted the boats. However just now when I was peeling away some trimmings of the tape I noticed that a lot of it was leaving an adhesive residue behind. This did not happen before when the tape was new. Is there any chance that this tape has a shelf life? The roll is about three years old.
