I am building an annopolis wherry and have a piece of mahogany 1/2" X 1/2 " X 2.5' and the instruction show it as a "WORM SHOE", but do not show in instructions where it goes or how to install it. Google says a worm shoe is put on keel to prevent worms from getting into the keel. SO I am asuming that this goes over the skeg. Anyone know about this thing?

Worms aren't really a problem for boats that aren't continuously in the water, especially if the boat is glassed, but "abrasion shoe" sounds so clunky and non-traditional.
