Need to varnish areas not exposed to sunlight, NE dory
Hi all, can anyone advise whether it is essential to varnish non-exposed or enclosed areas of the boat? I'm thinking of the underside of the mast step, inside of the dagger board case and the area under the stern seat. I would have thought that the epoxy should be enough in areas without the UV exposure.

Enclosed areas, not at all as long as they stay enclosed even during storage.
Non-enclosed but non-exposed - depends on if the part can catch stray reflections or not, and if it stays non-exposed during storage.
As far as the insides of daggerboard trunks, I like to coat them with epoxy/graphite for UV and physical protection.
Have fun,
