shearwater glass question

I noticed that the manual calls for 4oz glass in the cockpit and 3" tape in the bow and stern compartments. I was thinking about using cloth in the compartments.

I am also considering doubling the 4oz cloth on the outside of the hull. I have a tendency to over-build things. I can't help myself, you should see my various home improvement projects!

Opinions please.
