Nick Schade has made important forays into the world of high-performance stich-and-glue kayaks. Like the strip version of the Night Heron, the plywood stitch-and-glue Night Heron is a thoroughly modern boat that will appeal to athletic paddlers. As on the Shearwater models, the "tumbled home" sheer strake provides clearance to keep your paddle stroke entry close to the boat while sprinting. At 20 inches of beam, the Night Heron is a very fast boat with great open-water ability.
A popular Night Heron option is a cedar-strip deck on the standard stitch-and-glue hull. The Night Heron is available as a "hybrid" in two models: one that closely matches the stitch-and-glue hull for cockpit room, and a "high-deck" model with more leg- and footroom for taller paddlers.
