I'm not sure you'd notice a marked difference between the two at cruising speeds, 50% paddling effort. In a sprint the West River 18 would pull away every time.
The West River 18 has a pretty strong chine amidships so it feels like a chined boat in maneuvering. The multichine hull lowers wetted surface and that's what gives it the speed edge, along with being 2 inches narrower than the 17LT.
