There's always carbon fiber. Not only is it fun to build with, but since a 10 foot mast kit fits into a shoebox, you don't have to pay for shipping heavy, oversized pieces of wood or aluminum. This offsets the cost of the CF and makes the total price quite competitive with wood or aluminum.
