Join veteran boatbuilder/instructor Jay Hockenberry for a comprehensive, three-hour hands-on introduction to shaping your Greenland-style kayak paddle in our Annapolis workshop classroom.

In this class, students will learn how their paddle blank began as a few strips of wood. Then, students will shape their own paddle with most supplies and tools provided by CLC. Pick up a block plane and give it a go!

Greenland paddles have become popular for kayaking because they are efficient for long distances, in windy conditions, and gentle on the wrists and forearms. They are lightweight and look good too.

This is a 3-hour hands-on class. Students should expect to get sawdust on their clothing. We suggest wearing old clothing with long sleeves. The class size is limited to 8 students. The $185 fee includes tuition and materials to build your own paddle.

All students are required to bring an N95 Mask for sanding and a Block Plane or Bench Plane
