Hi Danielle....as already suggested, buying the full size plans is a must. Trying to loft the panels from tiny blue prints is only asking for problems. As far as economy in building from scratch, you may be disappointed. Any safe boat should be built from quality materials. I built my MC16.5 from scratch and kept every receipt...the bottom line was just over $1400.00 Cdn (right down to the last scraps of sandpaper). Although building from scratch is satisfying, the CLC kit price is very attractive.
It's not a difficult boat to build and the finished product is a joy to paddle.
