my recollection was that the MillCreek kits didn't have planing guides until the Chesapeake got them. Maybe my recollection is off but I don't think the first run of Chesapeakes before '98 had planing guides. The Patuxent and Cape Charles didn't have them. Those are the kits I meant when I said "other kits". I recall using the underside of the deck beam for the Patuxent and MC13 I made, I'm pretty sure there wasn't a planing guide in the '97 MC13 kit I built. When I said aid for planing I meant it was specific to the sheer clamp and not meant to be a guide referencing other parts like the knees as Gary was doing.
