I've done it but don't have any photos. I run the strips over the edge rather than fit a shear strip and fit each piece. Much quicker but does leave endgrain showing.
First time I did it, I ran the black hull over the edge on to the deck about 20mm just like the painted hull S&G's seen here.
i have an unfinished hybrid One Ocean Cirrus and I will do the same to it as I have also painted where the WRC paterns meet the Pine. Won't have pics for this in the forseeable future as it in the rafters and I don't kayak anymore. one day I might finish it.
My current build is a Pax 20 surfski. Have run the strips over the edge as usual with the intention of painting hull, but it looks good as is, so at most I may paint a 20-30mm sheer line to hide the join only.
