I am getting ready to migrate to a warmer place for the winter. I am thinking of bringing my Petrel with me to South Florida. Anybody make a long trip with their kayak on their roof, and what kind of wear and tear should I expect after driving 2200 miles back and forth with.

Dave,
We took my Petrel and my wife's Shearwater to Chicago then Cincinnati and back to NY this summer. I used Thule folding J racks with bow and stern lines. The only issue I had was that these racks do not fit the side profile of the Petrel as well as they do the SW and I developed a bruise in the chine in one spot. I added some foam padding and that helps. Make sure you use well secured cockpit covers, ditto hatch covers and you should be fine.
