Reef in a gunter sloop on my passagemaker
I want to install a reef in my gunter rigged main sail. Curious how she sails with a reefed main, is there any issue with the yard. Also how does the PM sail with a full main alone or on a jib alone.?
Thanks
Ron

Hi, I am trying to figure out how to reef my PM mainsail. Did you follow the suggestion of a second parrel further up the yard, and did it work? If so, could you post a photo. I think I can work it out, but would like to check first. Also, what did you do about reefing points on the sail.
thanks
Andrew

I have a gunter sloop rigged Skerry which I believe has the same sails as the Passagemaker. I had some reef points added to my sail and with the sail reefed, the top of the yard tends to fall away from the mast, creating a large crease in the sail. Adding a second parrel line further up the yard made the crease go away. As for sailing performance with a reefed main alone, I can still go to windward, although probably not as efficiently. Going downwind, the reef helps reduce weather helm and makes jibes safer.
