Padding Seats

It's no secret that everyone's, um, tush is different, so here are three ways anyone can get a well-padded and comfortable seat.

Method 1 - Cut two layers of 1/2" or 3/4" closed-cell foam to the size of your kayak seat. The best type of foam for boat cushions is Minicel foam. Cut two holes in the bottom layer to match your tush, then glue the top, uncut layer over them with contact cement, creating a tractor seat shape. Glue the pad into your kayak. You can also make pads for your hip braces and backrest.

Method 2 - Get a block of 3-inch thick Minicel foam and cut it to the shape of your kayak seat with a jigsaw. Fit the most aggressive sanding disc you can find (like 36-grit) to your drill, sander, or angle grinder. Sand out two scoops in the shape of a tractor seat in the foam block. Check the shape against your bottom. Glue the block into your kayak.
