Sophisticated Designs for Sophisticated Builders

Chesapeake Light Craft got its start creating easy-to-build boats for beginner boatbuilders. That continues to be our mission. Over the last 30 years, CLC's design team have created, or been commissioned to create, larger and/or more complex boat designs. The designs in this portfolio have a variety of backstories and range from the tiny Nesting Expedition Dinghy and on up in size and complexity. What they all share in common is that they are intended for boatbuilders who are comfortable reading plans, and who don't need the extensive step-by-step build instructions that are included with all of our most popular designs. We are asked constantly by experienced builders to make more of these designs accessible. Now we have.All of the designs in our ProKit collection have been tested extensively, often with multiple prototypes. All have extensive plans and documentation that exceed the average level of detail found in amateur boat plans, but nevertheless assume a knowledge of wood-epoxy boatbuilding and the ability to work from drawings.
