Shipping Overview
Boat Kits
After you place your kit order, it goes to our shipping manager, who will email you with an estimated shipping date. If we have your kit in stock, we'll ship it immediately within a day or two. If we need to fabricate your kit, the turnaround time will take longer, and we will make it in the next scheduled production run for that model. All CLC boat and camper kits are manufactured and packed right here by highly skilled artisans at our Annapolis, Maryland factory. If your project is incredibly time-sensitive, just let us know, and we'll do absolutely everything we can to accommodate your schedule.
Whether you place your kit order online or over the phone, you will receive an email with a shipping date and updates if it changes. You'll also get an email with tracking information once your kit ships. Kits are transported by freight truck and will take 5-7 days to arrive at your door, depending upon where you live. Rural areas may take longer. Most boat kit boxes are too large to ship via small package service, such as FedEx ground. PocketShip, Peeler, runabouts, and larger kits are shipped in large crates, and special arrangements may be necessary for off-loading from the delivery truck. The shipping company will call to arrange the final delivery once it arrives at the local terminal. Picking up your kit at the shipping terminal is an option as well. Depending on the item, some small kit packages will be sent through ground services such as FedEx or UPS.
Accessories and other items
Accessories and other items will be shipped the next business day if possible. We'll use FedEx, UPS, and USPS to send most of those items. Overnight or faster shipping options are available. Just ask!

How we ship boat kits

Boat kits are bulky. The packaging varies from one boat to the next, but most comprise one or two large cartons the shape and size of an eight-foot-tall door, accompanied by one or two smaller boxes with your epoxy kit and peripherals. The largest carton is rarely more than 60 pounds.
We use a freight company for kit shipping. In most cases, a UPS-sized step-truck will pull up at your house to unload the boxes. We will email a tracking number so you can follow the progress of your kit as it departs our Annapolis, Maryland factory and crosses the country. The shipper will call the phone number you've provided to establish a drop-off time convenient for you.
Like the airlines, all freight companies from FedEx to UPS to AIT (our shipper) use a "hub" system to move freight efficiently. And, universally, they all add a surcharge to zip codes that are a certain distance from their freight hubs. From each boat kit page, you can type in your zip code to get a total shipping cost. If you're lucky enough to live in a more secluded neighborhood, having the kit shipped to your workplace or to a friend closer to a busy freight hub might eliminate the delivery surcharge. Boat and camper epoxy kits are shipped by FedEx or UPS. There are a few kits that will have other small packages sent by FedEx and UPS as well.
Less bulky accessories ship via FedEx, UPS or USPS. Accessories will be shipped separately from your kit packages, so a boat kit and accessories may arrive at your home in several waves.
Other oversized items
Orders of Marine Plywood, Marine Lumber, Cedar Strips, Thule X-Sporter truck racks, and PocketShip Epoxy Packages will require a rate quote. You will be contacted with a shipping quote after your order has been received. You will never be charged until you have agreed to the shipping costs.
Shipping rates for the contiguous 48 states of the USA
Most of our supplies and accessories will ship to you via FedEx, UPS, or USPS. Shipping methods are made available to you based on the items in your shopping cart and your shipping zipcode.
Expedited Shipping
Expedited shipping (Next Day Air and Second Day Air) is available on most regular orders of supplies and accessories. These methods will not be available if your shopping cart contains hazardous materials, items that dropship from our vendors, or items that are difficult to keep in stock. Additionally, expedited methods are disabled for shopping carts that contains boat kits, plywood, and other special items that are shipped via freight services.
*If you choose an expedited shipping method (Next Day Air and Second Day Air), your order must be placed by Noon Eastern Time in order to leave our facility on the same day. Next Day Air and Second Day Air refer to business days only: transit and delivery times do NOT include Saturdays or Sundays. If you need to specify Saturday delivery for an order, please give us a call for an accurate rate. Call us (410.267.0137) or send us a note if you have any other specific questions about expedited shipping on items in our catalog.
Additional Shipping Considerations
*All FedEx & UPS shipments require a physical street address.
*Shipping charges are automatically calculated during checkout on most items. Some special items cannot be quoted accurately during checkout---in these cases, the website will show the charges as TBD ("To Be Determined"). The order will not be charged until a shipping quote has been obtained and approved by the customer.
*Boat kits, plywood, trailer kits, rowing units, oars, dollies, and some other items have individual shipping rates, which are listed in the Flat-Rate Shipping table.
* Please note that a small group of zipcodes within the Lower 48 that represent islands in WA, ME, and elsewhere will require a shipping quote.
International Shipping Details
We ship overseas orders daily. We work with a variety of carriers to find the best rates for each shipment, whether it be a kit, plans, or any combination of merchandise.
When ordering online, you will be prompted to agree to shipping fees up to a certain amount during checkout. Often this will expedite order processing and shipment by eliminating unnecessary email exchanges about shipping costs. If the cost of shipping your order is within the amount you have agreed to, we can adjust your order and ship it right out without having to wait for your approval. Do not assume that you will be charged the full amount that you have agreed to; we will only charge you the fees appropriate to your shipment.
For example, most of our Plans & Manual sets weigh in around 3 lbs and can be shipped overseas for under $50. If you agree to shipping fees up to $50, we'll be able to process your order immediately. If the actual shipping charges exceed the amount you have agreed to, we will email you with the updated costs and await your approval before processing the order.
Also note:- We do not ship paint or varnish overseas. Please remove any of these items before you submit your order so that processing is not delayed.
- Orders over $250 may require verification or alternate payment methods. You will be responsible for customs, duties, VAT, brokerage fees, or any other costs that may arise as goods cross borders.* It is difficult for us to predict these fees in advance.
