Sails

igned and manufactured by Douglas Fowler Sailmaker to the highest standards, utilizing first-quality Dacron material from Contender Sailcloth. Sails under 75 sq. ft. are made with 4.0 oz cloth, while larger sails are constructed using 4.4 or 5.4 oz., depending on sail size. Contender's white Dacron sailcloth is made in the USA; Egyptian cream and tanbark cloth is manufactured in Germany.  

All sails are crosscut, employing full seam curves to create a proper and efficient draft.  All appropriate edges, luffs, yards, and foots have sewn-in bolt rope using pre-shrunk three-strand Dacron rope. (Loose foot and leeches are not bolt-roped.)  Sails are equipped with ample reinforcement patches. Attachment hardware meets or exceeds industry standards, using nickel-plated brass spur-toothed grommets on smaller sails and stainless steel Rutgerson Super Rings on larger ones. Reef points and other custom changes can be accommodated for an additional charge.  For a great shape and years of service, you can depend on our sails!

Note: Custom reef points and some tanbark and Egyptian cream-colored sails are special orders, with a 3-4 week turnaround time.  Special orders can not be returned.
