Straps for Installing Decks

Straps for Installing Decks

Stitch and Glue Boatbuilding Tips

Cambered decks on CLC boats are easiest to install if an assistant holds the deck in position while you fasten it down. But what to do if you're working alone? One solution is to use a set of roof rack straps. You'll need them when you finish your boat anyway, so why not get them now so they'll do double duty? Tighten the straps around the hull about a foot apart, then fasten the deck between them. "Leap frog" the back strap over the forward one and drive in more fasteners. These are the best shop assistants you can get for the money; just don't expect much in the way of pithy banter.
