SKETCHBOOK: "John's Faering Cruiser"

SKETCHBOOK: "John's Faering Cruiser"

John C. Harris, CLC Managing Director,

Commentary:

After much hard work on the unusual Faering Cruiser, I still had some energy to fool with the idea, and doodled a version just for myself. It's longer and much heavier, with a thousand pounds of lead in a shallow keel. It was a nice design exercise and a fetching thing to look at, and yes, the keel is ample lateral resistance. I concluded the boat would be tender and wet, however, and it went no further. If you had deep cruising waters and a mooring, the hatchet-blade keel transplanted from a J-22 would stiffen her right up... (The nicer renderings are by Dillon Majoros.)
