I built a Yare from 3mm lauan plywood. Torturing the plywood into shape was kinda like wrestling an alligator. I would hate to try it with 4mm. (I have not seen any lauan worth buying in a long, long time). Paddling the Yare is like tight roping sitting down but you do have a balance pole of sorts.
