For sheer clamps, rails and other small dimension but long lumber. Pick up some 3/4" x 3/4" alumnimun angle at the hardware store.  I cut to about 16"  lengths. Line the angle with poly and clamp the glue coated wood securely in the angle. You can't own or use too many clamps. Works every time.
