Onlays

I've read the info sheet sent out for Onlay attachements.  But I have a different way to attatch and wanted thoughts on the method.  It strikes me that it would be easier to use tightbond waterproof glue (or any tightbond) on the back of the veneer, let it get tacky, apply it directly to the sanded deck; weigh it down (or tape or plastic wrap) then after it dries finalize the finish with epoxy, fiberglass epoxy etc on top of it.

Using epoxy strikes me as messy, with a high potential of the veneer moving around.

Thoughts?

RE: Onlays

I've also read about another way, coatinboththe area to be glued to, and the veneer, with glue, letting it dry then applying it with an iron, then later epoxy, fibeglass, epoxy etc.
