Boat recommendation for small inland Michigan Lake

I live by Dunham Lake in Michigan. It's a "No Motors" lake that is great for fishing and general recreation. We are allowed to keep a boat by the lake, but it needs to be stored up on the bank. It's a small inland lake and the depth at the shoreline is shallow. The am looking for a boat that fits into these parameters, but like most things in life I am open to compromise:

  • Be able to slide into the back of a mini-van, about 4ft wide, 4ft tall, but lengh is no issue it can stick out the gate
  • Room for 1 adult (2 is a stretch goal), 3 kids (4, 6, 9 years old)
  • Feeling of stability as kids shift around and cast
  • Light enough to pull on/off the shore
  • A sail is interesting, it's something I have never done, not required but something to fun to try

The Jimmy Skiff II looks like a all around good fit, but does seem like almost too nice of a boat. I'm upgrading from an old 14' alumacraft boat.

Eastport Dinghy might be just the thing for you.  If you go for the nesting version, it might just fit in your van with the hatch closed.  If it seems just too small, heck, build two!
