The Boat Building Academy
Instead of the one and done approach of most boat building courses, Boat Building Academy has an entirely different approach. Founder Bob Emser has developed a community of mentorship and accountability in helping you to build the wooden boat of your choice. Available are video instruction, mentorship, and an online boat building clinic.
New this year are in-person build-your-own-boat classes in the fully equipped workshop.
Build Your Own Stitch-and-Glue Wood Duck Kayak
August 17-23, 2025 - Starting with pre-cut plywood parts, we will assemble the hull and deck of the kayak using copper wires and epoxy glue. We will then cut hatches, fiberglass the boat and install the cockpit coaming. During construction, we will discuss outfitting the boat with seats, footbraces, hatch fittings, and deck rigging. After the class, your boat will be ready to sand and paint or varnish..
