The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum Classes

The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum

Lake Champlain Maritime Museum opened its first building, a historic stone schoolhouse, in 1985 with the mission to preserve and share the cultural and natural heritage of the Lake Champlain region. Today, the Museum serves a broad community throughout the Champlain Valley and beyond, working to connect all people with Lake Champlain through learning experiences, exhibits and collections at its 3-acre waterfront campus, digital engagement, boat building, underwater archaeology research projects, and more.

Do you know a water-loving, adventure-minded teen in need of a summer adventure? For over 25 years, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum has offered teen expeditions on Lake Champlain each summer for teens ages 13-16.

The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum has announced its 2026 teen summer programs and opened registration. Programs this year begin with a custom kayak building camp, June 22 - July 10. Kids build their own Chesapeake 17LT kayaks to keep—and use on the 7-day expedition that follows the building camp.

All teen summer programs follow a pay-what-you-can tuition model.

7-Day Kayak Expedition to the Canadian Border

July 20 - 24, 2026 - During this adventure, participants will build their self-confidence while learning new skills in wilderness camping navigation, leadership, paddling techniques, shelter set up, and Leave-No-Trace principles. Though we will each be paddling our own kayaks, teamwork is an essential part of this expedition. This expedition emphasizes responsibility, engagement, and leadership as we challenge ourselves to be part of a team while being in charge of our own boats.
