Overview

Originally designed to fit in a 20′ shipping container, the Dipper 19 is roomy inside, with many noteworthy features. The first is her use of twin 4-cycle outboards on the stern. There is no burying of the outboards in a well or awkward attempts to hide them. They are meant to be used. Two smaller outboards are light enough to be removed by hand when needed, for maintenance or container stowage.

Two engines are also convenient for maneuvering. By placing one engine in forward and the other in reverse, the boat can turn neatly in a tight circle. With twin 10-hp outboards, the fuel burned at 6 knots speed will be something less than 1 gallon of fuel per hour, or to put it another way, an efficiency of 7 miles per gallon. At top speed, the twin 10's will offer 10 knots of speed and twin 15's will yield 12 knots.

The cockpit is left open and unencumbered by seats or other appendages. A couple of comfortable, high-quality folding chairs use less space and offer great flexibility compared to built-in furniture. This also leaves enough open space for the two outboards to be laid on their sides for transport.

In the cabin, there is a standup galley that has all the ingredients necessary to function and under the forward trunk cabin, there is space for a porta-potty and twin berths on both sides. A remarkable amount of room inside and out for a boat under 20ft in length! In the evening, the porta-potty can be shifted to the pilothouse or cockpit. A filler piece in the berth area creates a huge, almost queen-sized bed.

Some versions of the Dipper 19 carried a sailing rig, resulting in a smart, capable little motorsailer.
