Builder Testimonials

The “Broadbill” is intended for the solo hunter, small and light enough to fit into the back of a pickup, or even cartopped. Its low profile and small size make it an ideal candidate for hunting just offshore from the larger, more-established blinds in your hunting areas or you might use it as a layout type boat.

Overview

Sam Devlin writes: "This is the smallest design that I offer in the “SneakBox” type of hunting boats. The “Broadbill” is intended for the solo hunter, so it is small enough and light enough to fit into the back of a pickup or could even be  cartopped.

Its remarkably low profile and small size make it an ideal candidate for hunting just offshore from the larger more established blinds in your hunting areas or it could also be used as a layout type boat. In either case, a low blind setup is the best way to  go. With your favorite dog between your legs and a dozen high-quality decoys set out, you will be amazed at how efficient she hunts. This little boat is the Holy Grail of hunting where your biggest problem will be how to raise up the ducks that sneaked up on you and are swimming in with your decoys.

She accommodates up to 15-hp outboard on her stern and at speed under power can run up to 30 miles per hour. Many times I have hunted in areas where a lot of other hunters were having no luck and my biggest problem was in hitting the birds before they could land in the decoys. Ahhh…….life should be as simple as this!

The plans show full-sized patterns and have both metric and imperial measurements.

LOA:  10′ 8" --  3.25m

Beam:  4’ 6.5″ --  1.38m

Draft:  4.5″ --  114.3mm

Power:  Oars, or 15-hp Outboard

Buying Options

Choose Your Boatbuilding Experience

Building your boat begins with selecting the option that best fits your skill level and shop size.

  1. Select Your Configuration

    Build From a Kit:
Most builders will start with the Base Kit. Everything’s there.
    Build From Scratch:

Source your own materials and hardware, and work from full-sized patterns.
Build From a Wood Parts Only Kit:

We provide the CNC-cut wooden parts and timber. Typical "wood parts only" kit buyers have their own supply of epoxy, fiberglass, and hardware.
    Order Study Plans or Manuals:
Like to study up a bit first? Download study plans or a copy of the assembly manual.

  2. Choose Options and Add-Ons

    Additional Components:
Some of our boats have options such as a center console. Many boats can be enhanced with nonskid decking, storage covers, trailers, and more.

  3. Get Building!

Computer-cut kits feature all of the latest tweaks to ease assembly, including slot-together frames, pre-drilled holes for stitching-and-gluing, puzzle joints, and precision in the fitting of parts.

Standard Configuration

For the Broadbill 11 design, Chesapeake Light Craft offers a CNC-cut kit of all plywood hull parts and a full set of building plans.
