The Rug Runner Scooter Kit is the perfect introduction to stitch-and-glue construction. Designed for first-time builders, it provides just enough epoxy work, wire stitching, and finishing to teach the fundamentals of the process, without the time commitment of a full-sized boat. Most builders can complete the project in 10–12 hours, making it an enjoyable weekend project for anyone looking to develop basic CLC kit building skills.
Originally designed for a local nautical-themed daycare, the Rug Runner was an instant favorite with young children. It's one of the most popular display pieces in the Chesapeake Light Craft showroom, delighting all the kids who climb aboard. The finished scooter is a durable, heirloom-quality wooden toy built for years of imaginative play.
Choose the kit that best fits your experience:
- Complete Kit – Includes the wood components, wheels, epoxy, CA glue, and the hardware needed to complete the project.
- Wood Parts Kit – Includes all precision-cut wood parts, wheels, and hardware, but does not include epoxy or CA glue. It's the ideal choice for experienced boatbuilders who already have adhesives and supplies on hand.
Like most Chesapeake Light Craft kits, paint, varnish, & supplies are not included, allowing you to choose the finish that best suits your project.
Whether you're learning the basics of stitch-and-glue construction or building a unique wooden toy for a special child, the Rug Runner Scooter Kit is a rewarding project.
General Usage Guidelines:
• Avoid using near hazards: Do not use near swimming pools, on or near steps, hills, roadways, or inclines.
• The scooter should only be used on flat surfaces.
• Intended for indoor use only.
• Only one rider at a time.
• Shoes must be worn at all times.
• Adult supervision is required.
• Maximum weight limit is 46 lb (~20.9 kg).
• Maximum height is 45" tall.
